I'm really excited to publish this story of my photographic coverage from Music in Hospitals Scotland's visit to Shetland last year.Derek Richardson, Davy McMartin and Charlie Gorman did an amazing job enertaining the locals.

"Music in Hospitals (MiH) is a charity whose mission is to improve the quality of life for adults and children with all kinds of illness and disability through the joy and therapeutic benefits of professionally performed live music in hospitals, hospices, day care centres, special schools and care homes. Our mission is to reach out to every healthcare establishment across the UK through MiH concerts."

GILBERT BAIN HOSPITAL

I was eagerly anticipating meeting up again with Derek Richardson, Davy McMartin and Charlie Gorman who were returning to Shetland to give a series of live performances on behalf of Scottish charity, Music in Hospitals. Funding for their visit was provided by Total.

I first met the musical trio when they visited Shetland in 2015 and was immediately taken with their talent and ability to pitch at the right level for their audiences.

Derek introduced their first number and said it was one of the most requested Scottish songs they heard when touring around Scotland. I immediately thought it might be Caledonia or Loch Lomond. Being a lifelong fan of Aberdeen Football Club, I was pleasantly surprised to hear the opening song was going to be The Northern Lights of Old Aberdeen!

The guys played a steady stream of popular songs which were well received by the audience with many joining in the sing-along.

MONTFIELD SUPPORT SERVICES

My next stop was at Montfield Support Services in Lerwick.

As you can see from the images below, Derek was really starting to get warmed up by now treating the audience to some of his signature dance moves!

ANDERSON HIGH - ASN DEPARTMENT

There was a buzz of excitement when I arrived at the ASN Department in Lerwick for my final stop of the tour. I had not been in attendance when Derek, Davy and Charlie had played at the same venue last year, but they had apparently gone down an absolute storm. As a result, an expectant crowd eagerly awaited their return.

Now, the opening numbers in the previous two sets had begun relatively slowly and built up gradually; however the guys, knowing their audience, hit the ground running with some high-tempo tunes! The dance floor filled immediately for what was a memorable set.

Let's all do the conga!

It was so good to see Derek, Davy and Charlie again and hope it's not too long before they're back in Shetland to entertain the locals.
